Anni Who?

Anni Kuan designs are born in a lofty, light-filled studio in New York. The City is a source of constant inspiration for her. “New York is both timeless and in a constant state of flux. There’s a need to be extremely practical in the way you dress. But, this is true no matter where you live. In a single day a woman might move from courtroom, to a school pick up, to the market, and then out to dinner. I like my clothes to be able to keep up with the lifestyles of the women who wear them, and make them feel polished, and empowered by what they wear.”

Each new collection begins with the hunt for the most extraordinary fabrics from across Europe and Japan. Like a little bee, Anni is drawn to bright vibrant colors, and intricate geometric prints. Only the fabrics that move her make the cut. “My designs have to flatter a woman’s body, dance with her curves, be architecturally slimming, and speak to the eyes and senses. The colors and prints might be what attracts women, but it’s my exceptional fit that makes my clothes so addictive.”

It’s from New York City that she endlessly obsesses over each silhouette, assisted by her team of three talented women. Her designs proudly bare the label “Made in NYC-Sweat Shop Free,” because they are produced right here in her city, under her supervision, by masters of the craft. “Our industry is filled with fleeting fashion trends and poorly paid laborers. I continually strive to bring passion to my work. To create something that is dynamic, lasting, ethical and beautiful. When I see my work come alive on the bodies of women, my dreams are finally realized and I am inspired once again.”

Anni’s design sensibilities have earned her a devoted following amongst women with a distinct sense of accomplishment, and includes celebrities like Laura Linney, Nicole Kidman, Joan Allen, and New York’s first lady Chirlane McCray.

Anni was born in Taiwan, and moved to the United States at the tender age of 12. She was educated at Pratt Institute. Her designs have been featured in the New York TimesOprahNew York magazineElle, Allure, and Marie Claire.
